Alain Desrosières was a statistician at the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques (INSEE) in Paris and historian of science at the Centre Alexandre Koyré, École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) (Paris). He is the author of The Politics of Large Numbers: A History of Statistical Reasoning (Harvard University Press, 2002).
